So our next task in the digital business course was to answer a few questions regarding the materials given. In this blog post I will answer those questions based on the materials and my own opinions.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">

1. Do you see digitality impacting worklife based on the material provided? If yes, how? How does Jussi Rautjärvi lead a digital business?

In my opinion digitality impact work life a lot. How could it not, when it's being such a big part of our everyday life nowadays?

I think this video (link) above tells more than a thousand words. Just in a little over 30 years things have changed rapidly. And I think it has become better. All those huge equipment's have been squeezed into one super machine, the computer. Now only the sky is the limit. Wow?

Digitalization have also brought social media into the working life. It's been used by millions of users and has a big impact on people in a lot of different cases, like when shopping new products, whatever it may be. So especially within B2C business social media is highly used. But while doing our social media strategy project to a company in a very creative business field, I was quite surprised how little these type of creative businesses use social media in B2B! It may be more difficult to use social media when marketing to companies, but after all, there's always at least one human behind every company. Maybe this will change in the future?

Here's a video (link) which probably many of you have seen before, but I think it's quite impressive what social media has become to. It connects so many people, cultures and even businesses.

-----

In this video, that we got as part of our materials, Jussi Rautjärvi (client director of Tulos Helsinki) says that leading a digital business is a big question. But anyhow, there is three main points that should be taken in to consideration:

1. Define the starting point. Where are you now? Where are your company now?
2. Make things possible in your company.
3. Create a culture of measuring and testing.

After these three points Rautjärvi states: just trust your people and let it happen! Great advice, don't you think?

2. What kind of opportunities Sani Leino describes about Augmented Reality and Pokemon Go? What is your opinion?

This next answer bases on Sani Leino's article of The Pokémon Effect, you can read it here!

First of all the article starts by listing the goals that John Hanke, the developer of Pokémon Go, has set to the game: 1. Exercise 2. To see the world with new eyes 3. Breaking the ice. Even though I haven't played the game myself, I can tell that all of these goals have been achieved. My friends have walked their dogs while pokémon catching and some of them have even met new friends or connected again with old friends while playing. These, in my opinion have been opportunities that someone chose to do something with. What a great application!

It's clear that Leino thinks virtual reality is the one new thing breaking through, and in a way it already has. I also believe people will go crazy (like by Pokémon GO) when more augmented reality games are launched. People seek experiences that they can't necessarily experience in real life.

3. What does professor Quesenberry mean by four-step social media framework in her Harvard Business Review article "Fix Your Social Media Strategy by Taking It Back to Basics ". How do you consider her framework?

Here is the link to the article.

I think the headline of the article already tells a lot. Many of us thinks social media marketing should involve every social media channel possible and it should be full of creative content that are published many times a day.. But what actually needs to be done when starting (or improving) social media marketing, is to step down a bit and start from the basics.

http://www.wheelhouseadvisors.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/How-to-grow-your-social-media-audience-and-engagement.png
I think this picture is great. Both your target audience (the sun) and yourself (the watering can) nurture your social media.

Define the status quo. This is the exact same thing that Rautjärvi stated (earlier in the post). It's not even about the social media. It's about your company, where is it right now?

Listen to your target audience. It's impossible to talk to EVERYONE. So it is very important to choose your target audience and focus on them. This is the first part where social media kicks in.

Create social media content that drives engagement. This in my opinion is the most important point in social media marketing. I will keep this in mind all the time when working on a social media strategy, even when doing it for a B2B company. The company needs to be transparent enough so that the customer can become engaged to the company or the product.

Link marketing to goals to social media KPIs. This point also is what Rautjärvi said. It's important to create a culture of measuring and testing. In this point social media already is in action, and due to it to work, you need to keep track on the changes, the development and the success.

I think this road carries your social media much longer, than just jumping into it with no strategy. I think Quesenberry's framework is absolutely great. But this is social media marketing in a nutshell. There's so much more to social media, and these four steps does not define all of it, even though it's probably the best start.

Thanks for reading!Camilla Fagerströmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00401222564280424176noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5976843811206503515.post-74891628811885665822016-09-16T12:11:00.000+03:002016-09-16T12:11:55.787+03:00Back in (digital) business!Hi all of you!

This week a new course have started: Marketing in a digital world. I have to say I'm super excited! So our first task is to share our feelings about the course and goals during it. I chose to use my existing blog and I'm actually happy to be writing again.

In order to this course, me and my friend Mira are working on a project during this fall. We are making a social media strategy for a B2B company with no social media marketing at this point. This is one of the reasons why I find this marketing in a digital world - course so interesting and helpful.

My goals is to dig even deeper in to the digital world. Especially B2B content marketing interests me and I'm also looking forward to learn some new tools to use in the digital world. Even tough I have participated in a few other digital business courses in the past year, I really think it is possible to always learn something new about the social network and the digital world in common. I guess the next step will be to learn in practice. Who knows where I will find myself next?

Going through our first chapter in this course, I got some thoughts about social media. First of all thinking about B2B marketing. How to make social media marketing personal enough? It is so easy to just tell the facts, but in my opinion even more important is to bring out the personality in the company. How to be proper transparent?

One other huge thing with social media is that you're never alone?! Everything, and i mean everything, you post on the internet, will probably stay there forever. How to find the golden highway between personal and professional appearance. Also written text with no facial expressions or words spoken can easily create unfortunate misunderstandings. And in this case we should know how to handle them. Online. Not face to face.

Social networking seems like it's not that easy after all. It may be a powerful marketing channel when used right. It can be used to show the customer direction and often customers trust thumbs up. They trust the majority on the internet. And the best part is, that if you get 10 likes for example on Facebook, you still got 100 or more views because of the connections of those 10 likers. It's all about networking. Right?

There are still like a thousand of questions and thoughts in my head regarding social media, and I wish this course will give me answers and clear up my head. I also think our social media strategy will be a success when using our knowledge and by picking up every new thing to be learned!

Sorry for the boring text lacking pictures! Maybe next blog post will be more visual?Camilla Fagerströmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00401222564280424176noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5976843811206503515.post-39983080382791343892015-12-13T17:54:00.000+02:002015-12-13T17:54:55.921+02:0015. THE LAST WEEK - check out the final videos!Hello! Oh my god, this fall has gone super fast. I feel like it was just last week we continued school after summer vacation. And now in a couple of weeks it's already Christmas..

First of all I want to thank my super group FTS13: Nelli, Mira, Linda, Tanja and Ria, like I predicted in some of my first blog posts, together we make one hell of a team! Also thank you to the mentors and the digital coaches, this course has by far been the best course in my 1,5 years of business studies. Of course this is school and sometimes it felt though and boring, but mostly we got the opportunity to be creative and do what we like the most: videos. In 15 weeks we have done 11 videos + two animations. Not bad!

On Monday I wasn't able to join my team. But they had shown the unfinished final presentation video to the teachers and they loved it! So on Tuesday we finished that video plus the short introduction video. In addition to those we also finished a video that we made for Emotion Tracker as an example of what they could use in a launching campaign. So on Wednesday we had a day off. Nice!

On Thursday we had the final presentation seminar. I was genuinely surprised how great it was! Almost like we graduated. Or actually we did in a way, we even got a certificate.

Every team held a brief 3-5 min presentation of the project they have done. There were many interesting and very good presentations, all the groups did a great job. We showed of course the videos, and I think it was a success.. At least we loved it! Also two of our team members got a special mention. Linda was chosen as one of two best bloggers and got an opportunity to write a blog post for Myynnin & Markkinoinnin Ammattilaiset. Ria on the other hand is heading to New York in January to take her internship! Great job both of you, we are really proud of you two!:)

As final words I want't to compare digital business with my dear hobby horse back riding. When riding a horse you're never going to be perfect. It's constantly new learning, getting hundreds of mussels to work at the same time, not only your own, but also the horse's. The same thing is in digital business. Every day you can learn something new, and every day you will learn something new! Keep your mind open. Strive to be perfect, but keep in mind that you will never be. Depressing? Don't let it be, you CAN be the best. Not perfect, but the best. I feel that I took a huge step closer to be a master in digital business this fall, but I still have lots and lots of things to learn.

Next year round two! Most of our team members have singed up to be digital coaches in the digital business course starting in the beginning of next year. Looking forward to it! Now I'm starting mt Christmas break, take care and see you later!

And hey! The last Martta picture...
The last lecture and second examHi you all! So this was the second last week! Soon it will be over. Good or bad? I think both. This have been a very great course which have both educated and entertained. I have learned about digital and content marketing, gotten inspired many times and best of all, I have had an awesome time together with my team and other people involved!

But back to business.. So on Monday we had our last lectures. The first one was held of Mika Aittamäki. I really liked this lecture as the subject was selling in the digital break trough. The first thing he told us was that people like to call the digital break trough a "tsunami". A tsunami all though is a great wave, but eventually it will pull back. In his opinion, and I totally agree, the digital break trough is any way more like a more constant rising of the water. It will not pull out.
Nowadays the customer has the power. The marketer has to stay focused on the consumers all the time. It is so easy to find information, better offers and better products every where and all the time. But an important thing is to remember always that there's a human behind the internet. Always, no matter what.

What captured my attention the most, was this line "Kone välittää informaatiota, ihminen välittää ihmisestä", a machine provides information, a human cares for a human. So much better in finish ;)

It's also important to know the difference between a traditional seller and a digital seller. If you're an awesome traditional seller, selling face to face, it doesn't mean that you're a great customer servant in digital. In the digital world the written skill is much more important than the social face to face ability.
Aittamäki had some super points of views. After him Nikalas Litmala told us about Leijona Academy, and the lectures they provide free for students in Helsinki.

And then the last lecture this fall! Wow, time flies.. Our mentor Ilkka Kurkela held again an inspirational lecture about digital humanism. Aristotle said that there is three things that effect a human mind: Ethos, Pathos and Logos. Rational, emotional and ethical appeal. Ilkka combined the rhetorics & modern marketing. The comparable appeals in modern marketing is spirit mind and heart.
On Thursday we had the second exam. It was okay, let's see what the teachers think :)

The funniest thing in this ending of the course is the videos we are making, one that's our final presentation video (it's so awesome!) and then a short introducing video of the course. The videos length should be about 15 seconds, and as it turns out it seems to be a hundred times more difficult to make such a short video... Which clips to use.. How to make it dynamic.. But I'm sure we're going to find it out!
Silja Symphony and lecturesHello! What does Silja Symphony and lectures have in common? Well, actually nothing this time, but on Sunday our group (and a lot of other Laurea's students) headed to the harbor and Silja Symphony! I think we really needed this and we had a lot of fun together! But enough of this topic.
Back to school! On Wednesday we met in a coffee house in Sello, and continued planning the next steps of our projects. At this point we plan the final presentation video. I think we will start editing it next week when all of us are in the same country the whole week ;)

On Thursday we first had a lecture by one of our digital couches, Arman Hosen Nuri. The topic was Digital Marketing. The meaning is to do strategic marketing by engaging customers and creating reliable, valuable and relevant content.

Arman showed us a interesting showdown between Coca Cola and Pepsi. I will link both videos below.

Which one do you like to most? In my opinion these kinds of marketing videos are an excellent way to engage the customers through digital marketing.

After the first lecture we, the students, held our own lectures about something we were interested in. This task was given already a several weeks ago, but our group got to present it on this day. You can find the blog post of this task HERE. What a Monday! - not that usualHello! This week started straight with a couple of very inspirational lectures! Mondays are definetly not my favorites, but this time it was just great! The first one on Monday was held by Jaakko Alasaarela, the CEO of ZEF Solutions. You can check out the company's website in the link.

Jaakko Alasaarela and Zlatan as inspiration.

Jaakko talked to us about dreaming, achieving and passion. First of all 98% of people doesn't write down their dreams, including myself. But the 2% who does, are in general more happy in life. I think that is something I need to try out. Secondly, everyone should figure out the one thing why he or she is NOT giving up, no matter what. I can think of some things that keeps me going, but I can't find that ONE thing. This is also something I'm going to work on, especially when not knowing what to do with life. We need to think that whatever comes in our way, WE CAN DO IT! I can do it. Every one can, if they so want to.

Then he shared us ZEF Solutions values:

1. LOVE - Everyone wants to be loved. If their not being loved, they want respect. If they can't be respected they want to be feared. If their not being feared they want to be hated. So basically, Peace and Love ;)

2. PASSION - Let's change the world. Problems are solved straight away, giving up is not a solution.

3. COURAGE - Use the courage to change with the world. Don't feel scared, as a team everything can be done.

This man was truly an inspiration. So filled with passion, great stories from real life and enthusiasm. More of this please! :)

The second lecturer were no worse, also an amazing person, Camilla Tuominen, the CEO of Emotion Tracker. She lectured us about mastering emotions and the importance of understanding them, both our personal emotions but also others.

"No judgement, just curious."

"Have the courage to look at your true emotions."

"Become aware and learn to choose your response."

These are quotes from Camilla's presentation, and I think they sum everything up perfectly. Also Camilla, just like Jaakko, encouraged us to write down stuff. And that's actually what our mentor Ilkka Kurkela also always emphasize so I'm starting to believe in it.. ;)
These lectures started the week perfectly. Tuesday and Wednesday we worked with a group task and the tasks given by Emotion Tracker's Camilla Tuominen. We have some great ideas for Emotion Tracker, let's see how it works out! But the group work was to analyse a bunch of thesis's (opinnäytetyö). Personally I think this was not that relevant to this course, especially when we are (or some have already) fulfilling a course just analyzing and learning about thesis's. But anyhow we made the most out of this too and made a video again! It's about the methods used in the thesis's. Find the video below!

On Thursday we had two more lectures. They were held by our digital coaches. The first one about SEO (Search Engine Optimization) by Jabed Kaisar. I'm sure I have talked about SEO earlier in this blog also, but briefly it strives to make better visibility for a website or blog.
These guys did very well with their presentations and knew the stuff they were talking about, and I appreciate that. This week the Monday lectures were the stars of this blog post, but any information is great information on the path of learning!

Hi you all! This week has been all about law. I'm so.. exhausted, not excited this time I'm afraid!

On Monday we had a lecture by one of Laurea Otaniemi teachers, Marjaana Marmo, with the topic law issues. Like most of the lectures, also this were held in English. It was really tough to listen to all these law terms in a foreign language and it was difficult to catch up. Actually I'm not that into law in general, but I very well understand that it is extremely important to be familiar with this topic. Like Marjaana said, it is not usual that companies have their own lawyers, but it is every employees responsibility to know the basics. Especially the employer should have knowledge about this.

The lecture were mostly about binding contract. Who, How and When?

WHO - First of all, to have contractual competence you have to be over 18 years old. There's also some more detailed laws on minors doing contracts, but I don't find it relevant to this blog. The who-part also includes that the contract can be made by natural persons (like you and I) and legal persons (companies).

HOW - Drafting a contract: 1. Offer 2. Period of validity 3. Response. Offer and response leads to a binding contract. The contract can be both in written or in oral form. I personally prefer a written contract, it's nearly impossible to prove something if there's some issue with an oral contract.

WHEN - Well.. When your making a deal with somebody? No matter if it is a job contract or a business contract. So simple is that. The more important question, I believe, is what to include to the contract.

Because this is a digital business course, we also talked of course about social media. But social media is such a new thing, there is no precise laws and the issues have to be solved by adapting from other similar laws.

This week we also got a whole bunch of tasks regarding the law issues. We started doing them on Tuesday and continued on Wednesday. There was a lot of work, and unfortunately we stated that this week we will not be able to make a video. Boring, I know! The tasks were mostly based on consumer protection and commercial law. This topic was after all quite interesting, but my head is spinning round after this information flood, and I feel I can't actually write down anything clever.. The law issues are a huuuge area. But I think you all know that. Or at least you will know.

On Thursday we went trough the tasks, which I think was really good. I learned a lot and stayed focused the whole lesson due to the lecture language, Finnish! If nothing else, I know I'm going to be more sharp when it comes to customer rights!

As I said this week was mostly about law issues, and I'm a little disappointed on myself this week. My dog has been bored the whole week and I had to priority school work and hobby over her.. But next week hopefully will be easier and I can spend more time with the brown beauty! She really deserves it. But today it's Friday and were going to my boyfriends cottage with a pair of friends and all the dogs, so it's going to be a lot of fun and relaxing!

Write to you next week, have a great weekend! :)Camilla Fagerströmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00401222564280424176noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5976843811206503515.post-18234114350479162072015-11-08T20:10:00.000+02:002015-11-08T20:11:55.688+02:0010. Week ten - time is flying!Hello again! This week was a little busy. The week started with two guest lectures, the first by a Laurea alumni Sofia Auranen who's working for Parker Hannifin. She told us about her career at Kakkugalleria in the break point of digital marketing. Then he told us trough her experiences working abroad. Her four main points were: Do your best, treat people with gratitude, never burn bridges and aim to great. An inspirational lecture, we'll see if my way ever leads abroad and what the future brings... :)

The other lecture on Monday were held by Hanna Sirama, who owns a startup, but the startup is new and naturally I can't write about it. But we got a bunch of tasks to do for her, and our team made a video regarding the topic, dogs. I think that I can relieve ;) On the video you can see cute dogs, not much more, but I think especially dog lovers will enjoy it! My dog Martta is also starring in it.

On Tuesday and Wednesday we worked with the given tasks and the video. On Thursday we presented the works to Hanna and here connections. I think we did really great, despite that the Prezi presentation did not work on the computer in the auditorium, so we saved it with an iPad :D I guess these are things that can happen!

On Wednesday we also finally visited DigiPeople Studio's office!

FTS13 outside DigiPeople Studio!

There we met Pekka Tuominen, the CEO of the company and his wife Camilla Tuominen, among with the other employees. Pekka showed us around and told about the work in the video marketing field. Interesting! Afterwards Camilla told us about her startup, Emotion Tracker. Quite an interesting idea, you can read about it on the website! We are supposed to do cooperation with her now, because the lack of tasks for Digi People Studio. Let's see how this works out! Camilla is a lovely person and very inspirational :)

Last but not least Thursday. So on that day we had the presentations, but before that we had jet one more guest lecturer visiting. This time it was Arto Kuuluvainen, who works with sports brands and marketing.

Who is Arto Kuuluvainen?

So sports like football is not my passion, not at all. So at first I was honestly a little bored. But when he continued the lecture, I understood that sports are actually a great, big business! Both sports teams and athletes are brands.
He told us lots about sports marketing, and I didn't quite catch up. Then he told about how companies can utilize sports in branding. One great example is Redbull, who (i believe) launched this sport downhill ice skating. What a great visibility trick! Also Finnish Jokerit are cooperating with a big company Huawei. I think these kinds of things are good customer engagement. Below I will link the Huawei video of Jokerit joining the team. Quite captivating! Jokerit and small Finland.. ;)
Exam and bloggingHello! This week we had our first exam out of two. The exam was OK, I believe I'll pass, the rest is in the hands of the teachers ;)

The exam was on Thursday, but before that we had a pretty cool guest lecturer on Monday. He was Ilpo Kärkkäinen, a DJ and electronic music producer, one of the big names in that field in Finland. He lectured us about blogging, as he's been a professional blogger for 5 years. To be completely honest, I was I little bit disappointed that the topic once again was blogs.. But sure, blogging is increasing its popularity constantly and his lecture was great.

In addition to these, Ilpo told also about Google Analytics and Google trends. Google Analytics is a very basic website analyzer. It tells you the visits of the page, locations, demographics etc. You can also see the real time statistics and where the traffic is coming from (like mobile or web..). In Google Trends you can see the interest in different topics at the moment. You can also see what is "in" in specific countries. The statistic bases on what people search on Google. This is a really good tool specially for bloggers.
Busy week - lots of informationHeeello! This week felt like a busy week. On Monday and Thursday we had on both days two lectures plus group presentations, on Tuesday and Wednesday we worked on the given group task.

Let's start with Mondays lectures. The first one was held by a guest lecturer Terhi Aho who's working for Tulos Oy. Her topic today was content and search engines. The things that I remembered the best was the importance of linking. Your website should be linked in several places so as many persons as possible can fins them. Then also this customer journey, that is good to keep in mind when planning marketing: 1. Awareness 2. Information search 3. Consideration 4. Buy 5. Stay. This is how customer buying process usually carries out.

The second lecture was actually about being a student and what's important (and a little bit of advertising the company ;). It was held by Joanna Purosto, working for MMAliitto (Myynnin ja Markkinoinnin Ammattilaiset). This was quite the same we have heard the whole fall, but from another point of view again. Anyway, her three most important point was:

1. Network - always be active with getting networked, it is a great base when entering business life
2. Be digital - digital is THE thing today, keep up with the development
3. This is just the beginning - studying gives the base, working gives the experience

On Tuesday we started with planning HOW to do our this weeks group work and also the content, and on Wednesday we executed it. The task was, once again, to choose three companies working in the same field of business and then use a website grader tool to compare the companies homepages. We choose the same companies as in the previous task: DigiPeople Studio, Oneminstory and Superclick. All of them work in the field of video marketing. Below you can see the video, this time an animation, so I will not dig any deeper in the comparison.

There's one thing I want to write a little more about, this website grader tool powered by Hubspot! I honestly had never heard about it before, and it's actually a very good tool for anyone interested in improving their website. Go check it out for yourself on https://website.grader.com/. Briefly it gives your website an overall grade and then some points of what should be improved. By watching our animation, you get an idea of what the tool gives you. And you can search with any website you wan't to. Also notice that you don't have to write your email, just the website and then "Get Your Answer".

FTS13 working. Brr cold in class!

On Thursday the lectures continued. This day the first one was held by our mentor Ilkka Kurkela and he told about digital strategy. This was in my opinion more like an inspirational lecture, and he started with emphasizing the importance of the persons that supports you the most. For me the most important persons are my mom and my boyfriend. I know I can always count on them, they inspire me and supports me in any situation. I couldn't figure out the third person, so I go with my dog. Sure she can't help me verbally, but is sure a great inspiration!

The other important thing is to remember in business to help others and to respect others. This whole digital marketing is a huge thing, so it takes time to learn it all, or actually, you can never learn it all. You just continue developing every day. And I couldn't do it without help and respect.

Ilkka Kurkela.

The second lecture was held by one of the digital coaches Bishnu Rana, he told us about lead nurturing. This was actually a new phrase for me, so I'm going to open it a little bit for you too. Briefly lead nurturing is the process of a good customer relationship throughout the whole buying process. Especially now when a lot of the selling and buying happens online, the product or service provider has to make sure that the buying process is solid and don't leave any gaps in the buying process. Not easy but worth it!

The lead nurturing idea.

Then the last thing for this week (gosh I feel like this is by far going to be the longest blog post in my blog, or at least the one with the most information..). This week we got an individual blog task also: to choose five other blogs, read them and give feedback.

1. Digi Business World

- Written by Johanna Laahanen
- Great with pictures to lighten up the posts!
- A really clean and easy read blog.
- What I liked the most, all the positive attitude an nice comments!
- The headlines could be more captivating.
- Short but good content.

2. #Digi

- Written by Nora Peltola
- I liked the "Päivän positiivinen" picture, more of this!
- Also here the headlines could be more captivating.
- Nice background, beautiful :)

3. Digimarketingwindow
- I can't find anything to be improved :)

5. Digital marketing

- Written by Reetta Koivikko
- A little short posts, but the content is good.
- Pictures is a thumbs up!
- The cultural baggage picture is good, so cute and good points.
- Also here: the headlines :)

After writing these reviews, I wan't to say that I hate to critic other peoples work. I know it is something that I probably have to do some day in my life, but for now I think especially blogs are personal and all great in their own way. For examples many of these points I wrote could concern also my own blog! But all in all I liked all the blogs I read :)

And finally the weekly dog picture!

Have a great next week!

Camilla Fagerströmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00401222564280424176noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5976843811206503515.post-2785707929027918612015-10-18T17:46:00.000+03:002015-10-18T17:46:14.162+03:007. Autumn breakHi! Autumn break.. Lovely, just what was needed! Or actually it was the teachers that had vacation, we just didn't have any lectures ;) But as I told in the previous post, we managed to do all our group work last week (I'm going to link the video of our last work here below, as I promised), so we got to take it chill this week.

In addition to just doing nothing and enjoying freedom, I have worked with some other courses and prepared myself for the first exam, taking place in a couple of weeks (I believe..). We'll see how that works out.. There's still lots of studying left.

But before I completely forget, here is the video about comparing social media platforms. If you wan't to you can read the assignment in the previous plog bost.

So this post turned out really short, but lets blame the minimum work we had this week! I mean in this course. We haven't either gotten any next step of our Digi People Studios project, so I guess we just have to wait for next week! Then the only thing left is this weeks dog-photo ;)

I'll write again next week!Camilla Fagerströmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00401222564280424176noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5976843811206503515.post-46964785946132920682015-10-11T17:18:00.002+03:002015-10-11T17:18:23.786+03:006. Creative thinking - synopsisHi! This week has somehow seemed very long. So let's just start from the beginning, as usual.

On Monday morning we had a great guest lecturer, I mean, the CEO of the DigiPeople Studios, Pekka Tuominen. Just to refresh the memories a bit, DigiPeople Studios is our cooperation company in this project going on right now. I will tell more about that later in this post.

Pekka Tuominen told us about video strategy. The important thing is to remember: people love authenticity, like what's happening "on the back stage". A great content will be catching and spreads easily. Now I know my mom reads this blog, and we have talked about this topic earlier. So here I present some points of WHY VIDEO? ;)

You can show interesting content

People like the most watching a video (2012), I believe instead of reading

Optimizes in search engine

Improves the conversion

For example Zappos, 6-30% better sales if video used

Relatively cheap

Then we have the points of WHY DOESN'T THE VIDEO WORK?

The video is not visually solid

The beginning and the end has to be good!

It has to be named right

The quality vary too much

The video is made too safely, it has to be creative!

Too big budget

Too long video

When making the video, you should be aware of the mobile platforms. But when finally done with the video, it's important to think about the publishing and follow-up. Tuominen says the video HAS to be on Youtube. From there it can easily be spread. Then the question "Where to publish?". It has to be carefully thought individually for every kind of company. Where do the company meet the clients? Is it the TV, internet, radio, fairs, shops... One great advice is also not to take control of the video, but share it with all clients and other people. This way you can get the video spreading easily and for free!

After the lecture, we got our new group task. This weeks task was to choose a branch, then choose three companies within that branch and then comparing them and their social media platforms. Surprise, surprise we chose the branch of video marketing! The companies were OneMinStory, Superclick and of course DigiPeople Studios. But I will link the video we made in the next post, so hang in there ;)

Working with the synopsis.

Later on the week we worked hard with the group task, but also with the next step of our project. This weeks work was to be creative and come up with the synopsis for two of the suggested companies we thought of last week. Naturally Digi People Studio chose the most potential companies. We worked Tuesday - Thursday almost every day to 5 or 6 pm, and I think that is why this week seemed sooo long. But again we got a lot work done, let's see how this thing is going to work out! ;)

In addition to everything above, on Thursday we went to Laurea Leppävaara to this Network to Get Work happening. The two lectures I attended to were really basics of how to built your carrier and what to pay attention to.. I'm not going to dig any deeper to that because it has nothing to do with this course.

From last weeks Porvoo-trip!

Then I wan't to say, to those people who thinks our work trough videos is easy and requires not that much time of us. I have to say, I have never done this much work on any previous school projects. None of us had done videos before or edited them. So everyone can make it happen, if they just sacrifice enough time for it. :) That's what we've done when learning everything from the bottom line.

Next week the teachers have their autumn break, so we decided to do all group work done this week, so that also we can take it easy. Naturally we have also other school works to do and an upcoming exam, but anyway.. See ya later!

Excitement - project with DigiPeople Studio Oy!I'm so excited! That line seems to be the most popular one in our group this past week. And can't blame us! This Monday we got to meet the companies we will be doing a project to (or with). Our group get to work with no less than DigiPeople Studio. They produce different kinds of moving picture commercial to their customers.

At first on Monday morning we heard about all the companies working with different groups. There were many interesting companies and projects, but I believe this project we got suites us the best. We get to be very creative and work with a company that produces videos for living, videos: like our groups passion!

After the presentations we had a meeting with the CEO of DigiPeople Studio, Pekka Tuominen. We got to ask questions and also got the project instructions. We made a short 2 minutes video about the project idea, I will link it here below. But briefly we are supposed to make a shortlist of companies and then write this synopsis or a story line for the chosen company. I think the greatest thing is that the company emphasize that every moving picture commercial should contain a great and touching story. If we're lucky and creative enough, we might even see the story be produced! It is a great motivation when doing this, even though it's just a big MAYBE.

By the way, if you wan't to see the other videos we've made, go to the Youtube channel by Mira Niemi. Every video will be published there.

We worked all Tuesday with the conpanies shortlist and the video. So after working one long day again, we decided to take one day off and do a roadtrip to Porvoo! We went to Brunberg (yam!!) and Peten Koiratarvike. We had lots of fun and I think we really needed this day together doing something more relaxing. I believe chilling is as important as the working itself. No brain can execute at the highest level without a short brake.
On Thursday we felt fresh again and full with energy! Maybe..? This time we heard the most inspirational lecture so far, about content strategy. It was held by Jyri Rasinmäki who's working for Vapa media. His main points was 1. Problem solving 2. Importance of thinking 3. Asking the (right) questions. He told us the basics of working within content strategy and encouraged us to be curious and just to find our own way of thinking. And to keep on thinking.

At the end of the lecture he asked us to write down three things that we remembered best after the lecture. Mine was:

1. "Creativity and criticism can't be present at the same time". I think this is just perfect, and this suites our group perfectly. Every one listens to others, and positivism is the key to great thinking.

2. Ask the right questions. It is important to keep asking. It's hard to say what is the right questions, but as it's said, there is no dumb questions.

3. Be curious and think. This goes well hand in hand with asking the questions. These together seems to be the best way in solving problems.

After this interesting one hour, every team introduced their own projects. I must say that I could have done any of these projects, but still I think ours is the best ;) Once again I'm so proud of our team, we did a good job again this week. Now I'm curious about the upcoming week again!
Woah, this week has been more hurried than the previous ones! Let's go straight to point, we got a big task this week: plan your own lecture (30 min) about one freely chosen topic. Our group felt it natural to choose video marketing and video in general because of the big interest to videos within the group.

We started on Monday afternoon by planning what to tell. Reading articles about the topic and then listing the most important information. This time we wanted to take the presentation one step further by first of all using Prezi instead of the usual Power Point, but also by doing an animation in addition to a video. Non of us had used this kind of software earlier so we used almost all Tuesday making that one. It's more difficult than you would think. The point with the animation was to show some statistics regarding video marketing. Actually kind of interesting! If someone's interested, we used this program called GoAnimate to do the animation.

Working hard on animation!

Then on Wednesday we started filming our video with the topic "How to make a video". That day started also this eService online course by introduction lecture. At this point we understood we'd never finish the presentation in time, with the deadline on Thursday. Fortunately we got permission to finish it after Thursdays lectures. So this week we didn't be one of the fortunes to present in front of class. ;)

So this week I have to be honest when saying I can't actually remember much of the Mondays lecture with everything else going on. But it was time for the next guest speaker, Tomasz Odrobinski. Like the previous guest lecturer he told us about his own experience and what it's all about. The subject was mainly about sales and international development in the digital era. They have also created this awesome rental website Erento, check it out. What I do remember well, is that he knew his field like I know the back of my hand!

What's left of the week? Thursdays lecture. Actually this wasn't just one lecture, but I think like five. Five groups presented their own topic. First two presentations were great but didn't concern this course at all, but then we heard presentations about blogging, growth hacking and LinkedIn. Which all I think were useful for many of us. Especially this thing called growth hacking was a brand new thing for me. Shortly it's all about market yourself/your company with limited or no money. Looking forward to hear more about this topic.

Even tough this week has been long and I've been exhausted in times, I believe my team has done a great job and we had lots and lots of fun working together (again, as usual)! I suppose next week will be exciting, considering that we will meet the company's we will be doing some sort of projects to the rest of the fall. Looking forward to it! From next week on we get also a new team member! She's Ria, we know from earlier that she has good English skills and has a great motivation and we really do have need for one extra pair of hands.

Culture - Heia Norge!

The third week was what I would call awesome! And why? We got to be creative again and did a video about this weeks main topic. I'm going to tell more about it later in the post, but let's start with the Mondays lecture.

So on Monday we had a lecture held by Anna Ikonen, with the topic CULTURE. I personally think cultures are extremely fascinating. I believe I'm quite "culturish" myself because of my Finnish-Swedish background and one year of exchange in Norway. Even so, my first thoughts about the topic was: "why should we learn about cultures in this course of digital marketing?" During the lecture I understood the importance of cultural differences also in business life. The most important thing that I'm going to remember is to learn about new cultures, with all it's manners and beliefs, before participating in an international meeting. With respecting others, I believe that also I can be respected.
Anna told a lot of examples of Poland and their manners and beliefs. It was really interesting and actually fun hearing about. But one thing bothers me when it comes to stereotypes and cultural thoughts about Finns. First of all, apparently, people think Finns doesn't say "please". I always say thank you and please. That's how I've been raised, and that's what all my friends think they do also (at least those who I have talked to about this). Secondly Finland seems to be a closed and unsocial country. Also those claims are wrong if you ask me. Yes, here are persons who like more to be with themselves, doesn't like to be very social or doesn't like other people at all. But what country doesn't have those? The most people I meet daily are friendly and social. But these are after all my own opinions. No people should be generalized based on old stereotypes.

Anyway we got two tasks this week, one individual regarding the blogs and one group task. The individual task was to create your own cultural baggage. You can see mine below, it was actually fun doing this one. Not all the statements about me is really Finnish culture (or what other may think is Finnish), maybe little Norwegian or Swedish too? I'm independent, I say thank you, family is my everything, I may seem quiet but when you get to know me... ;)

My version of the cultural baggage.

The group task was to choose a culture and make a presentation of it. For our group it felt natural to choose Norway, because of my knowledge of the country. As I mentioned earlier we made a video again, please watch it and let me know what you think?!

We had a lot of fun making the video of this week also. At first we started to make a handbook of all the things we wanted to tell about, and then we just started filming. We made this video in two days, on Tuesday 10 am to 4 pm and on Wednesday from 9 am to 6 pm. Although it took a long time, it didn't feel bad. Hope you like the short "documentary"!

The second lecture, also on Monday, was held by our first guest lecturer Lynn-Marie Sederlöf-Airisto. She told us about international marketing. She told about her own experience but also about:
1. How to target your customer - your target may be nothing like you
2. Social media - many platforms that are changing all the time, you need to be where your customers are, make choices
3. Running a global campaign - define target audience and message, create content
4. Tools - Google Analytics, heatmaps & scrollmaps.

Why did I found this lecture interesting? Because I have absolutely no idea what I wan't to do after I graduate. I know that within this branch there's tons of opportunities, but what to do? This international marketing actually sounded very nice, so maybe I dig more into it. For example Lynn's career sounded exciting.

Short summarize of Thursday: Presentations! We heard many interesting presentations about different countries and their cultures. The funniest thing was that no one chose the same culture! We heard about Latvia, Albania, Spain, Luxembourg... I can't remember all of them but we also showed our video about Norway.

Then some thoughts about the blogs in the end:

1. Blogs are personal. In my opinion they can't be compared with one another.
2. Short and rich content are much more interesting to read than loooooong and nonsense.
3. This is new for almost everyone in the course, it takes time to be the best :)

This week was also a doggie week! We got great support from Linda's puppy Ruu and my dog Martta. Love it! Until next week :)
Camilla Fagerströmhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00401222564280424176noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5976843811206503515.post-83530548709483888902015-09-13T15:46:00.001+03:002015-09-13T15:47:37.563+03:002. Who am I - Who knows me?

So the
second week of the digital course is done. This week we had two topics: self-branding and communication. Everything started on Monday with a lecture about self-branding by
Anna Ikonen, one of our mentors. Actually I thought I already knew quite a lot
about this topic, due to a course we had last year. But then I realized that I knew
what an elevator pitch is, and that’s about it. But during the lecture I got
some new perspectives and ideas, which I’m going to work on.

First of all
there’s all the tools that can be used in branding yourself. Social media, videos,
blogs, articles… There’s probably so much I don’t even know that exist! I only use Facebook
and then of course LinkedIn. Now I realize I should be more active with especially updating
my LinkedIn profile. But after this course I will be! In fact, I’ve already
done some updating.

Then Anna said: "It's not even important to know who you are, it's about WHO knows you". This is one thing that I believe we should keep in mind. In order to get work, we have to network. Connecting with the right people is the key nowadays. But it's also important that the people you're connecting with knows the real you, all your skills, your experience and why YOU are the best human being EVER! Well there's no need to be that excited, but you know... :)

After the
lecture our group did this mind map kind of thing
that everyone wrote down different skills they thought the others had. Okay,
this explanation was really bad, but below you can see the picture of my personal mind map so
you get the point. We’ve already worked together earlier, so you’d
think it would have been easy, but actually it was a little tricky! But I think everyone had some skills they should be proud of.

What the girls thinks about me!

After the first lecture we got a task to do our own pitching video. I believe I know what my best skills are, and it's easy to tell about them face to face. But try do it in front a camera, alone (with the dog staring at you), and get it to sound good. Not an easy task at all!

So I downloaded this movie maker that's free for Windows users, so I could edit my pitching video a little. It was so, so, so bad! The stupidest thing was that I didn't get any music in the video, because the movie maker had no own music to be used. I couldn't download any music to this video because of the copyrights. So below is what I got finished. Not quite happy but "no can do".

On Thursday we had the second lecture, about communication. Actually I believe we knew quite a lot about this topic too, because of the communications course last year. The biggest advantage of this lecture was learning about it in English. And of course "kertaus on opintojen äiti", so it's good to fresh up the memory a bit.

Anyways communications are a part of our everyday life, both in the personal and the professional life. This slide from Anna's presentation below tells like everything about the communication process. The quality is bad, but shortly: The sender encodes the message that the receiver decodes. And it's very important to get the receiver to really understand the message.

Ah, very bad quality...

What I think what is the most important things to remember would probably be what will be said, how it will be said, when it will be said, where it will be said and who will say it. Those are the basics in communication. It doesn't matter if the communication is on evenings between you and your family or at work with your coworkers or customers. We have to learn how to encode different kind of messages.

Here I consider my week done, and this is how I'm going to spend the rest of this Sunday! Have a nice next week!
